YOU ARE NOT YOU – YOU ARE US - EGO AND SPIRIT
A Native American elder once described his own inner struggles, in this manner:
“Inside of me there are two dogs. One of the dogs is mean and evil, the other dog is good. The mean dog fights the good dog all the time.”
When asked which dog wins, he reflected for a moment and replied – the one I feed the most.”
The ego and the spirit are two concepts that have been the subject of much discussion and debate in the world of self-improvement. Understanding the difference between these two concepts is crucial for anyone who wants to overcome the ego and live a more spiritually fulfilling life. Here, we will explore the nature of the ego and the spirit and how they relate to each other.
The ego is the part of us that is concerned with our own self-interest. It is the part of us that wants to be seen as successful, powerful, and important. The ego is driven by fear, insecurity, and a need for validation from others. It is the voice in our head that tells us we are not good enough, that we need to work harder, be better, and do more. The ego is constantly looking for ways to assert itself and prove its worth to the world.
The spirit, on the other hand, is the part of us that is connected to something greater than ourselves. It is the part of us that is rooted in love, compassion, and peace. The spirit is the voice in our heart that tells us we are enough, that we are loved, and that everything is going to be okay. It is the part of us that is in tune with the universe and the divine.
The ego and the spirit are often in conflict with each other. The ego wants to be in control, while the spirit wants to surrender to something greater. The ego is concerned with the material world, while the spirit is concerned with the spiritual world. The ego is focused on the past and the future, while the spirit is focused on the present moment.
Overcoming the ego and connecting with the spirit is not easy. It requires a willingness to let go of our need for control, validation, and success. It requires us to be open to something greater than ourselves and to trust in the universe. It requires us to be present in the moment and to let go of our attachment to the past and the future.
In conclusion, understanding the nature of the ego and the spirit is a crucial step in overcoming the ego and living a more spiritually fulfilling life. By recognizing the voice of the ego and tuning into the voice of the spirit, we can begin to live a life that is more aligned with our true nature.
Limiting Beliefs are a compilation of all your fears.
These beliefs are your fears magnified into a stream of constant thoughts. Constant thoughts and overthinking in general, channels your movements, your actions. They become your internal dialogue, and then your real voice.
Spirituality is innate, natural to humans and other beings. Everything that moves has a soul. To have a soul is to be spiritual. The ego deems spiritual nature as powerful. The more you lean into ego the less you are connected to the Divine, which means you are less connected to your being, your essential goodness. The ego is not designed to be dominant because it's not of the soul but of the flesh. Ego and spirit are direct opposites.
The ego rationalizes while the spirit believes and is faithful. The ego hears, but the spirit feels. There is no denying the connection when you are leaning into and relying on spirit. Though opposites, spirit and ego must be fed. The one the human feeds most, is the one that is stronger.
The ego is new with each incarnation only capable of rationalizing based on learned data, and exposure specific to one lifetime. The only things familiar to the ego are current experiences and the experiences themselves becoming a fabric of reality. The soul is limitless. Your soul has always been with you. Each lifetime, each experience, each incarnation, the soul is present. Collecting lessons and advancing with the completion of each lesson. All for growth all for succession, all for the experience of humanity. The soul remembers, the soul feels connection to the light and other souls.
The fear of the light is against spiritual nature. The light is where you entered this life, the light is where you should return. But we all have choices. In each choice there is a decision to follow the soul map or rely on the ego. The ego knows only but what you feed it. The ego is taught through real time, there is no past memory. The ego is only aware of a single lifetime of events.
Disconnection from the soul, from faith, means the ego has been fed. This means you have only relied on what you can rationalize and what you can see. However, the world is made up of both the seen and the unseen. What you see is ego. What you feel emotionally is the soul.
If you cannot connect to the light, you have forgotten who you are because you believe only what you can see and not what you can feel.
I have come to realise that at the end of the day you can separate people into two categories: ego-driven or spirit-driven. Most people who live in the ego are completely unconscious that this is the choice they have made, whereas people who are spirit-driven have evolved to a higher plane and are conscious of their choice to let the ego go. The key to living a more evolved and fulfilling life spiritually is to know what the ego is and evaluate which one you are feeding: the ego or the spirit.
Your ego is mind driven. Anytime you are operating in your ego you will have a racing mind, anxiety, anger, and fear. The ego is a flame that feeds you to be “right” all the time. It will convince you that you are superior in all ways and that any misfortune that came your way was the result of an outside force that has nothing to do with you.
The ego competes and strives to be number one in all things. It is based in external gain to promote internal strength. The ego is all about appearances and impressions. An ego-based person is one who lives by acquiring material possessions and self-indulgence to feel whole and valuable. The ego driven person has a constant desire to prove his/herself, to be fitter, faster, cleverer, richer, and better than others The ego person needs to win, achieve, and accomplish to receive the admiration of others.
The problem with living this way is that the ego is a bottomless pit. Filling the ego is like dropping a penny in the Grand Canyon. It will never be filled.
The drive behind the ego is survival, and once the ego is threatened in any way it will resort to any measure, no matter how destructive, to make itself feel back on top and in control.
Whereas, a spiritual person has evolved beyond all this immaturity, accepting their lives as spirit not ego, with no reason to prove anything to themselves or anyone else, and able to remain peacefully free to observe with satisfaction, the failings, and shortcomings of those who continue to struggle to maintain their ego image.
